By supertool
I really wanted to give this product a five star rating, but some issues emerged that dropped it to only three stars.
First, the battery I received is a dud. After charging it fully it lasts less than 20 minutes under very light duty mowing conditions. I recharged it several times with the same poor results, and when I checked it with my voltmeter it shows virtually zero voltage and several ohms internal resistance, so clearly there is something amiss with it. After charging, all 4 battery LEDs light up, but within 5 minutes of use there are only 3, after 10 minutes only 2, after 15 only 1 and shortly thereafter it dies and the mower stops running. I've emailed Greenworks customer support about this issue, so I'll have to wait for their reply to see how they respond. I was expecting about 40 minutes run time based on the manufacturer's specifications, and it takes me about 30 minutes to mow my 3/16 acre lawn, including landscaped and tight areas.
Second, the Greenworks website states that the blade height adjustment range is 1-1/2" to 3-1/2", which is perfect for my needs. In fact, it is only 7/8" to 2-3/4" (20cm - 70cm) as stated in the manual, which I verified by measurement. Also, the bottom of the deck is not level, sloping towards the front, where it sits about 1/4" lower than the rear. Since the height adjustment does not permit independent adjustment of the front and rear wheels, there is no way to correct thus. So, even though there are 5 adjustment positions, only the top 2 are useful, and it lacks a sufficiently high position for long summer cutting. Also, the smallish wheels require high effort to push the mower through anything but the lowest grass height, so this mower is useless for any clearing operations.
Both these issues are unfortunate, as there is otherwise a lot of good to say about this mower. Mulching quality is excellent with its wavy blade and round deck shape, due to the mulch plug and lack of a side discharge. Also, there is minimal buildup under the deck, which simplifies cleanup. Changing from mulching to bagging is a 10 second operation, and the bag is well made and easy to empty. Overall quality and durability is excellent, and I cannot see any parts falling off or failing under normal use. Many parts are common hardware items, such as cotter pins to secure the wheels and tubing clamps (aka P-clips) to secure the rear stone shield. Key fasteners are identified in the parts list, such as the M10X1.25 hex nut that secures the blade.
The battery issue is probably an isolated random problem, which hopefully will be rectified promptly by Greenworks. The height adjustment and high rolling effort issues could be easily solved together by using larger diameter wheels. Simply increasing the wheel diameter by 1 inch would increase the maximum cutting height by 1/2 inch, which would be a significant improvement. There appears to be ample deck clearance for this.
Update on 4/23/2012 - I've downgraded this product to two stars because of the major hassle I'm having getting a replacement for the defective battery. I called Greenworks customer support this morning and was informed that I needed to take the battery to an authorized service center for repair. According to the Greenworks person, these batteries are repairable/rebuildable and they won't simply ship me a replacement under warranty. The closest authorized service center is nearly a 30 miles drive from my house. I drove to the service center with my battery and charger, and was informed that they did not do any electrical repairs and could only order a replacement for me. They then informed me that these batteries are on backorder from the Chinese factory, and are not expected to be back in stock for several weeks or even over a month. Also, they were not sure they could warranty it, since the battery manufacturer, Dixie, could not cross-reference it to the Greenworks mower model number. However, they agreed to order it for me and try to sort out the warranty issues later. So, best case scenario I get a replacement no cost under warranty, but still need to wait for weeks and burn about $30 in gas driving twice to the service center. Meanwhile, I can run my mower for about 15 minutes at a time with the crippled battery. What a hassle.
Update on 5/3/2012 - I received a phone message from the service center folks at Northern Tool + Equipment that they had received the replacement battery and that it was covered by the warranty, so I just needed to bring in the defective battery for exchange. Another 60 mile round trip later and I had the replacement battery, which fortunately is good. It had two of the four LEDs lit and charged for about 2 hours before showing a green light on the charger. I ran the mower for about 20 minutes before dark, and it had two LEDs lit when I stopped. It took less than an hour to fully recharge, so it appears that it still had at least half of its charge remaining, and I should be able to get about 40 minutes run time from a full charge to empty, which is more time than I need to fully mow my yard. The mower seems to run stronger with the new good battery and the battery doesn't get hot the way the bad one did. So, while I'm pleased that this has all been resolved and that I now have a fully functional mower, I still feel that the cost and inconvenience has been unacceptable and will not revise my rating.
Update on 7/14/2012 - I have replaced the stock 6" front wheels with 7" wheels that I bought from Harbor Freight Tools (#98951). I've uploaded some photos at the top of the Amazon listing that show how the mower is now level, whereas before it tilted down towards the front and it has also gained nearly 1/2" maximum cutting height at the leading edge of the blade from 2-3/4" to a more useful 3-1/4". Another advantage of the larger front wheels is that they make it easier to push this nose-heavy mower, especially in thicker grass. The only quality issue to date has been tearing of the foam grip, which I have fixed with electrical tape.

By Tea
We have used a corded B&D for many years but grew tired of cord management. Some of the most popular cordless models we studied (B&D, Ryobi at HD, Sunjoe, etc.) are very heavy with massive batteries. They rely on self-propulsion which adds complexity. With the arrival to mowers (finally) of Lithium battery technology, the problem of weight was solved and before too long, the initial high prices for these mowers began to come down. This company's two offerings were the first we found to have favorable reviews in terms of design and build quality as well as a price we were willing to pay. We chose the 16" model for this reason and feel it was a good deal at $330 with Amazons' free shipping.
The compromise is the relatively small blade, but this has proved to be less of a concern than we expected. The remarkably light weight of the mower makes it very easy to maneuver on a 1/2 acre property with a swale border. To lessen the wear on the protective shield which hangs from the rear, we mow mostly forward (also it is less dangerous to push than pull a mower).
Battery life is astonishingly good. Because it is Hot here, the battery and charger live Inside with air conditioning.
We live in central Florida with many months of very hot weather. Pro lawn services often recommend setting mow heights at 4", any less and many grass types will struggle in the scorching sun and heat and many weed types will be able to out compete, if unshaded. Unfortunately this mower is designed with a maximum cutting height of 2 3/4" (at the lower front of the blade). We were tricked by the specs which say 3 1/2", but in the manual the correct max height is stated as 2 3/4". As this summer started to come on here, I became concerned about the health of the mowed grass, and influx of broadleaf weeds in sunny spots. That's when I realized the mow height was just too low.
First, I removed the cover to see if the linkage controlling the height could be extended- not worth the trouble. Next, I removed the 7" rear wheels and tried them in front. As another reviewer pointed out, the rear wheels are wider than the front , so that didn't work. After a brief search on-line, I located some replacement candidates at Harbor Freight. Fortunately, there is a Harbor Freight here in town so I purchased 2) 7" (#98951) and 2) 8" (#40598) light mower/cart type wheels. The rear 8" wheels went on with no trouble. The front 7" wheels required removal (in this case by Dremel) of inner 1/16" and outer two concentric plastic rings 1/8" to fit the cotter pin. (Note: Harbor Freight also had 10" similar wheels and they would fit in the rear, but the front wheels are critical because the blade already runs low in the front and raising the rear won't change this, significantly. Unfortunately, 7" is the max diameter that will fit in front). The new max height is approx. 3 1/4" which hopefully will please the grass.
In addition, I removed a screw clamp which held the "throttle cable" to the handle bars. When the handle bars were collapsed (after each use) the cable was being tortured for no good reason by this clamp and could prematurely fail as a result. The cable now folds in neat large curves.
Please note: Hopefully, Greenworks will appreciate my, and other Floridians concerns, but please be aware of, and consider for yourself, Liability issues with changes to the design. We accept this because we very much like the mower and plan to keep it.
This is a an excelent mower which we enjoy using and we now hope will not hurt the grass.
P.S. After the addition of 4) 8" Harbor Freight wheels (see comments), we have made it through the brunt (4 months) of an old fashioned heavy rainfall Florida summer with this excelent mower. Through the peak months, July, August, September, the grass needed mowing as often as every 4 days. Although the little Greenworks was used delicately at first, before too long during the Growing season, it was being pushed hard.
The grass has never been happier. I have sharpened the blade twice (we have one section of Bahia Argentine...). There have been absolutely no issues with this mower, including any associated with the addition of the 4) new 8" wheels. The mower has been tortured, mowing on lateral angles along the steep sides (NOT advisable with a gasoline powered machine) of a long swale property border. Because it is so delightfully light, this is easy, except for the 95 degrees and 80% humidity part.
I have never run to the end of the lithium battery's charge even though I have repeatedly run the mower for more than 1/2 hour. I choose to cut a thinner swath in the really thick grass so as not to lug the RPM down, which increases the run time. I have only one battery which is allowed to cool down inside after use, before charging. A full charge takes about 3 hours after which the battery is removed from the charger and the charger is switched off.
In terms of moneys worth, this mower has more than paid for itself already. We are amazed, as are our neighbors, and delighted.

By Mike
The size, weight and power is exactly what I was looking for and I'm not disappointed in that department. I really like how easy it is to operate and does a good job cutting and mulching. My only compliant, which is a big deal for me is the lack of a higher cutting height. The mower is advertised on Green Works website as having a max. cutting height of 3 1/2". The highest I measured was 2 3/4" (ground to blade) at the rear and the front is even a 1/4" lower. Basically, I'm forced to cut my lawn shorter than I like. I been looking around for larger replacement wheels but haven't found any yet that would fit the the front axle.
