Product Description

This Lawn-Boy 20-inch variable speed mower is lightweight and maneuverable yet powerful enough to cut through tough grass. It is equipped with a Kohler 149cc 6-1/2 gross torque over head valve engine that requires no priming and is easy to pull. 5Great mower, even better price
By S. A. May
Rear-wheel drive self-propelled mowers are usually much more expensive than this. Great for lawns with any kind of incline, which render front-wheel drive mowers useless. I had it out of the box and cutting grass within 5 minutes. Starts the first time, every time, with an easy pull, no-prime starter. The throttle bar kills the engine extra-fast, so extremely safe. The self-propel bar has variable speeds, which is very handy for tight turns. At full speed, you almost have to trot behind the mower to keep up, so not for people with limited mobility. I don't even mind the 20" deck... those 2 extra inches aren't worth the price difference. My ONLY complaint so far is that the mower has trouble moving even slightly damp (or very thick) grass into the rear bag. It tends to clog up at the rear of the mower and mulch, causing you to stop, remove the bag and physically pull the clogged grass out the back of the mower. This isn't a problem if the grass being cut is dry and only reasonably long. But I've talked to friends with Toros and Craftsman mowers who have the exact same problem, so I can't really fault Lawn Boy.

$259 is a great price for a quality product featuring rear-wheel self-propulsion.

4Great 1st Mower
By Figi
First up, the only reason I didn't give this mower 5 stars is because I've never owned another mower so I have nothing to compare it to. But, overall, as the first mower I've ever owned this Lawn Boy is perfect!

I bought this mower from the store and had it oiled, gassed, and running in less than 15 minutes after I got it home. The oil came in the box, which was a nice. All I had to buy in addition to the mower itself was gasoline. The assembly instructions were easy to follow.

There are about 7 different length settings to use, so no matter how long or short you want your grass, this mower can handle it. My back lawn is about 60x30--which is a nice size--and it has a slight slope and uneven terrain. This mower attacks every inch of my lawn perfectly! Even around the trees. The rear wheel drive and self-propelling makes coming up the hill very easy. I can actually drive the mower with one hand when I'm using the self-propelling lever. And it doesn't move so fast that I have to run. I can keep up with the mower with just a slightly accelerated walk.

The mower starts on the first pull every single time I use it. And the controls (gas and self-propelling) are extremely easy to hold on too. They don't require a lot of extra strength. The bag is easy to take on and off, and (again) the self-propelling really comes in handy when I use the bag because grass clippings can get really heavy. With the self-propelling I don't have to tire myself out moving the mower around. The mower literally does all the work and I just guide it.

I recommend this mower to any first time buyer if you want a good mower for not a lot of money and you have a medium-to-large sized lawn. I wouldn't recommend for small lawns because it's a little bulky and difficult to turn in tight spots. But $260 is well worth it for what you get and I think you'll be satisfied.

5Awesome mower
By jimjoebob99
After my last mower bit the bullet, I decided it was time to buy a new one. I'm normally the type of person to buy something used and fix it, as it is cheaper most of the time so this was a new expierence. I found the Lawn Boy, for a deal, on Amazon but the first one that popped up was the Briggs & Stratton one but i've never been a fan of Briggs because of their cheap construction. Well to my surprise, they had the same mower with the Kohler down in the related items. I've worked on a lot of Kohlers and love their construction. Well, after a lot of time and research, I came to the conclusion that this was the right mower for what I wanted. The only thing that I fought with myself about it was whether I wanted the self propelled or not. It was only $20 more for the option but I figured for that price, it was going to be a garbage kind of option. I ended up getting the self propelled anyways because I also figured that if it was a bad design, I could try and find a way to beef it up since i'm a tinkerer. Well needless to say, the option works great minus the fact that I had to adjust the cable a bit out of the box to make it work correctly. Now if you pull the lever too quickly, the mower will actually spin the tires and try to run away from you. lol! Another thing I was plesantly surprised with was the fact of how easy it is to pull start. Feels like the engine is broke or it has no compression, it's that easy. Also, it normally starts on the first pull even when it's cold. There isn't a manual choke (all automatic) or a primer ball to have to press either so you don't have to do anything except squeeze the kill lever safety switch and pull the rope. The engine has plenty of power and I haven't killed it yet while cutting (which my old 6.25 HP craftsman liked to do a lot) the tall grass in my back yard. The only down side I have noticed is that the grass bag fills up too quickly. I'm trying to attribute it to the mower doing such a great job at picking up the grass clippings but I honestly think that the bag could be a bit larger. The mower works great as a vacuum also. I use it to clean up small sticks and leaves that litter my driveway so I can save sweeping or spraying them off with water. All in all, I think that it was an awesome deal for the money and I wouldn't change a thing if I had to do it all over again. Very satisfied.
